Job Description
DSEL is seeking a Senior Accounting Administrator to join our accounting team. We are a builder-oriented subdivision engineering firm that provides innovative engineering solutions to many of Canada’s largest and most successful low-rise residential builders. The position is located at our head office in Markham, ON, and our flexible work model allows each employee the ability to structure their professional hours in-person and remotely.
As the senior team member, you’ll be overseeing the accounting department’s day-to-day operations, aiding in all financial transactions of the business from fixed payments and variable expenses, to bank deposits and reconciliations. Accounting duties include timely completion of tax obligations, revenue forecasting, and preparing reports for senior management on the financial position of the business.
Responsibilities
- Draft invoices for project managers.
- Coordinate accounts payable and receivable activities.
- Review accounts payable entries, releasing payments for vendors paid by EFT.
- Prepare month-end bank reconciliations.
- Manage the ongoing completeness and accuracy of the company’s financial reports, prepare journal entries and liaise with the company’s external accountant as appropriate.
- Perform financial analyses of projects, providing recommendations and variance analysis to project managers.
- Oversee the biweekly payroll function.
- Ensure various HST, payroll, T-slips, WSIB and EHT filing, reconciliation and remittance obligations are met.
- Support external accountant in the year-end close and audit processes.
Our successful candidate will bring:
- An undergraduate degree in accounting with trajectory toward CPA designation.
- 2-5 years of accounting/finance experience, including a proven ability to communicate with senior department managers.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Intermediate to advanced skills and knowledge of Excel and Sage50 software. Proficiency with PowerBI and/or Billquick considered a strong asset.
- Ability to work independently, highly detail-oriented, with strong organizational skills.
